Installing RHEL5.x / CentOS5.x on HP dc7800 (Duo Core 2.4 / 4G Ram / 80G 7200RPM HDD)
Just installed RHEL on HP DC7800 machine and it works well. The problem only problem I encountered was when trying to boot up the system first time through RHEL5.2 CD1 and it got stuck at:
ACPI: ............ bus is 0 (sorry for not catching the exact message)
The solution is rather simple. Change SATA mode in BIOS to AHCI. Well, I don't know if it is just my dc7800 but I don't seem to find this option in my BIOS. May require some ROM updating here. On some further investigation and searching, I found another possible way of making it to work and that is, at the time of boot from the first RHEL CD, you issue this command at the [boot] prompt:
linux all-generic-ide pci=nommconf
Hopefully, after this, your installation will be smooth. I also got stuck at Linksys WUSB54GC installation and after 1 whole day of efforts, I managed to install it. Since that is Linksys stuff, might not be relevant for this post but I've posted that article on Linux Foundation website for anyone else looking for some help with that.
Hope this is helpful.
Enjoy!
Update: Sound doesn't work. It is Intel ICH9, which apparently alsa doesn't support. Trying to make it work!

Hey!!!
Ubuntu 9.04 is the answer 64 or download it for AMD 64-bit
Upgrade ALSA
I think ALSA support for the ICH9 is coming along nicely. You may have success in downloading and compiling the latest release, this has worked for others in the same boat.
