Using the iLO2 VSP for a text-friendly console
The iLO2 provides a couple of graphical console mechanisms - but that's not so convenient for doing a remote console log, or for cut & pasting a kernel panic message, and can also be a hassle to access through some firewall setups. I prefer to ssh to the iLO and use the VSP (Virtual Serial Port) as a console. Here's a blog entry from a couple years ago that explains the VSP setup, using a Debian install as an example.
